Texas Music Teachers Association/Grand Prairie MTA Events and Activities

MANDATORY

Theory Test

Students are given 2 opportunities to take and pass the state music theory test – once in the Fall and once in the Spring. Students who do not pass, want to improve their score, or want to catch up to their grade level are encouraged to take both.

OPTIONAL

Spring and Fall Festivals

Each student who participates will perform one piece from memory to be judged by a judge selected from outside the Grand Prairie MTA. The student receives a critique sheet outlining positive aspects of the performance and suggestions for improvement. If a student has an outstanding performance, he may receive a “Recital” rating, qualifying him to perform at the honors recital scheduled the same evening.

TMTA Convention Activities

All Star Festival – The TMTA All-Star Festival provides a state level of performance opportunity for piano, voice, and instrumental students in a fun and noncompetitive setting.  Any student who receives a “Superior” or “1” rating in a local association festival, NFMC festival, or UIL is eligible to participate in this event. Students will receive a critique from a TMTA Collegiate Student Chapter member and a gold medal for a Superior rating or a silver medal for an Excellent rating.  Participants earn one point each year toward the Student Affiliate State Participation Award.
